What's In The Elephant's Trunk?
(Ok, only three of us will even get that title.)
Found this in a cookbook in a section entitled "This and That".
Elephant Stew
1 elephant
brown gravy
salt and pepper to taste
2 rabbits
Cut elephant into bite sized pieces. This will take about 4 months. Cook over kerosene at 525 degrees until tender (about 5 months). Add salt and pepper and cover with brown gravy. This will serve 3,800 people. If more are expected, add 2 rabbits. Do this if only absolutely necessary as most people do not like to find hare in their stew.

Hey, I remember that! (The song, not the stew. I always tried not to eat anything I didn't recognize. And often, things I did.)
elephant knives, for elephant wives
elephant toys, for elephant boys
various kinds of elephant junk
that's what's in the elephant's trunk
i was raised on that song
Aliza: That explaines a lot.
On a separate note, wasn't there also, elephant curls for elefant girls? Why did the elephant girls have hair? And if the elephant wives had knives, is that how we got elephant stew?
oh does it? that's good to know, because i'm still searching for explanations for a lot of things...
was that on the same record as the alphabet soups song? and the one about good habits?
OMG! Aliza, you know that song?
I don't know. I think we were raised on a more peaceful version. Don't remember any knives/wives. I remember elephant curls for elephant girls.
And for a real trip down memory lane, found this comment on a blog somewhere...
I'm gonna download this and give it a listen. I was wondering if you had a record that my little brother had as a child. This record included the songs, "Tippy The Tiger", "What's In The Elephant's Trunk", "Gerry The Big Giraffe" and "The Unicorn". The Unicorn song was dull, but the others were hilarious. I used to laugh my head off at this one. If you could post that record I would be forever thankful.
You forgot, "The Grumpy Old Crocodile". Oh, wait, was that a song or a sibling?
Aliza: the would-be psychologists in the family can figure out why you substituted "knives" for "curls". The rest of us can halep you figure out the other things, if you want to share!
You just beat me to the grumpy old ...
Hey. we have a big kiddush next week, can you get me some elephant chulent?
Funny, you usually beat me to Grumpy Old...
i can't seem to find the lyrics, or any supporting proof that the word "knives" is in the song, but i'm almost positive that those words are in the song.
i don't think we have the record anymore, but i think it's a Peter Pan record, with that song about the lion with the mangy mane who was lost in the shady lane or something
I'll bet my parents still have it...
I don't remember the lion song, but, believe it or not, some of these songs appeared on more than one album, so we must have had different ones.
the only one I never quite understood was
elephant sties, for elephant eyes.
I know what a sty is, but why put that in a category with curls for girls and hose for toes and knives for wives? I know it rhymes, but that's like saying
elephant diseases, for elephant nieces,
elephant SIDS for elephant kids...
the grumpy old crocodile, is grumpy tonight
little tippy,, the tiger,
bampa badadada bampa dadadadaada
jerry, the big giraffe, his legs are long, ....give three cheers in his behalf, for jerry, the big giraffe.
the most annoying one of course was the hippopotomi
This was my favorite album as a child. Unfortunately, the record is long gone. I always dreamed of sharing those songs with my own children. Do any of you know where I can get a copy of this record?
